Post-Op Instructions for Tooth-Colored Fillings – Daytona Beach, FL

If you have cavities or tooth decay, we will use dental fillings to strengthen and protect your teeth. For visible parts of your smile, we can use tooth-colored fillings to seamlessly restore your teeth. After you’ve received your fillings, here are some important post-operative instructions to keep in mind:

  • Your anesthesia will wear off in approximately 1 to 3 hours after the procedure. It is vital not to chew on the numb side of your mouth to prevent biting your tongue, lip, cheek, etc. until the anesthesia wears off.
  • Your tooth or teeth may be sensitive to hot or cold temperatures, but this is completely normal. The more invasive the procedure, the more sensitivity you may experience. The possible symptoms of hot, cold, or pressure will cease within a few days to a couple of weeks.
  • As long as your teeth and gums continue to feel better (not staying the same or getting worse), everything is fine. There is no need for concern. If we prescribe Ibuprofen (Motrin), it is not for pain. This is to reduce the inflammation in the area worked on and will further eliminate hot, cold, and pressure sensitivity if taken as directed. Please advise us if you are allergic to or cannot tolerate Ibuprofen. If discomfort continues for more than a couple of weeks, please call our dental office at 386-274-2021.
  • Once your anesthesia has worn off and you feel as though any of the teeth we have worked on are hitting first, please give our dental office a call immediately. The imbalance with your bite may cause further discomfort and should be adjusted.
